We had an 11 year old waterbed mattress that was definitely past it's prime. We had already decided to replace it with a conventional bed. I put the Kill-a-Watt on it one morning for about 5 hours, the heater appeared to be almost always on! We just replaced it with a Select Comfort air bed. The Select Comfort is very comfy by the way, nice on the back.

Savings: 100% This is huge! If the numbers are correct I just killed 4 months of electric bills by getting a nicer bed. Time will tell. The price of the mattress above is for their lowest end model with a pillow top option.
The waterbed heater, an electricity leech?
