Over time we replaced 1540 Watts of lights with 252 Watts of compact flourescent bulbs. We have yet to replace a CF bulb, some are over 5 years old. Our night lights all use light sensitive LED's, never replaced, around 4 years old. The bathroom overhead uses a slider switch, easy on the eyes in the middle of the night or on dark mornings.
Probable Energy Use
Lights | Watts | hr/day | KWh/yr | $/yr | lbs CO2 | Price |
Incandescents | 1540 | 1.25 | 702 | $63 | 1470 | $0 |
CF | 252 | 1.25 | 114 | $10 | 240 | $42 |
Savings: 83% Wow. The old incandescent lights could easily have used over 1 month of our annual electric bill, making this a no brainer. Never changing a light bulb again is my kind of laziness.
This desklamp rated at 60 Watts was too hot to touch. Now the light is softer and it's safe with a 13 Watt CF.
A 7 Watt compact flourescent fits perfectly in an antique candle lamp.
